A strong dedication to cultivating these unique plants ensures that this
tradition will continue on into the future.
Situated to the north-east of the Wanneroo township on 4 acres,
the Nursery stocks a vast range of Australian plants and is open
to the public 7 days a week. Experienced qualified staff are on hand
to assist you in creating your own unique garden.
Plant Production
Propagation
Strict hygiene at this stage ensures customers receive top quality
healthy plants. Best practice guidelines are followed to
ensure strict hygiene. All propagation media is steam pasteurised
to ensure no pathogens are present. Current innovations in propagation
are constantly being incorporated into routine practice, such
as 'smoking' of seeds. A fully operational plant tissue culture
laboratory also plays a vital part in propagation - particularly in
harder to grow varieties.
Plant Tissue Laboratory
The laboratory plays a vital part in the propagation of harder
to grow species, and also ensure that the plants, which
are produced, are of the highest quality. New introductions
of native plants are made available and promoted by Lullfitz
Nursery every year. The introduction of a plant tissue culture
laboratory several years ago, has enabled the nursery to propagate
and breed plants that were previously difficult to produce by
conventional means.
Look out for newly bred varieties such as Anigozanthos ‘Gold Velvet’ PBR and Anigozanthos ‘Amber Velvet’ PBR – available soon!
New Plants
Over the years the nursery has been responsible for numerous plant
introductions into cultivation. Some well-known examples of
these include - Grevillea obtusifolia 'Gingin
Gem' and Chamelaucium
uncinatum 'Purple Pride' which have been taken up and become
industry standards.
Several new varieties are currently developed, such as – Grevillea ‘Ellabella’ PBR and Adenanthos cuneata ‘Coral Carpet’ PBR.
Lullfitz Nursery will continue to select and develop the
most horticulturally suitable plants from Western Australia's
unique flora, in order that they can be made available to
the public for their own gardens as well as public plantings.
Grafting
Lullfitz Nursery’s dedication to Western Australia’s flora
has recently seen many grafted plants added into the current range. Varieties
such as Pimelia physodes (Qualup
Bell) and forms of Eucalyptus
ficifolia (Red Flowering Gum) are now being grafted to ensure consistency of form
and flower colour.
